“Hi, everyone. Welcome back to the nomadic Spaces podcast. I'm your host, Sarah, and today we are going to talk about why investing in an interior designer is worth it. In this modern world, where aesthetics and functionality hold significant value, the concept of interior design has consented from a mere decoration to a crucial element of creating spaces that reflect individuality, foster well being and optimize functionality. While many individuals may be tempted to take on the task of designing their own living or working spaces, encouraged by the unrealistic programs on HGTV, et cetera, there are compelling reasons why enlisting the expertise of an interior designer can lead to remarkable results and even save precious time and money. In this episode, we delve into the myriad of benefits of investing in an interior designer and how their skill set can transform your space beyond imagination. One professional expertise interior designers possess a unique blend of creative flair and technical knowledge. Their education and experience provide them with a deep understanding of color theory, spatial arrangements, furniture selection, lighting design and material sourcing. Their knowledge extends beyond aesthetic preferences to encompass the science of human psychology and ergonomics, ensuring that the design not only looks appealing, but also functions optimally for its inhabitants. A few quick notes about what to look out for when choosing an interior designer. In my humble opinion, of course, a good designer should not be encouraging cookie cutter style designs. A good designer will take the time to understand not only your aesthetic needs, but also your functional ones, and won't put the project into a design style box. A good designer should blend styles to make it personal and unique to you and your property goals. A good designer should be educating you about your decisions and options and guiding you to make choices that will create the end result you want. A good designer should not just be your yes man. my clients have consistently given me feedback when I've gently challenged their idea about how much they appreciate it. Again, a designer's job is to get you the results you want, not to let you choose a backsplash child that is going to prevent you from getting that end result. Number two tailored design solutions. Each space is distinctive, presenting its own set of challenges and opportunities. Interior designers excel at customizing design solutions that cater to those specific needs, preferences and lifestyle of their clients. They carefully consider factors like the flow of the space, the natural lighting available, the purpose of each room, and the individual personalities and needs of the occupants. This results in a design that is uniquely suited to the space and its inhabitants. These tailored design solutions also apply to your investment goals. Knowing whether you're flipping a house for resale or designing a home as a short term rental, or renovating your forever dream home will have a huge impact on the type and extent of design and how the budget is allocated. Number three cost and time efficiency. This is a big misconception that hiring an interior designer is an extra or bonus or unnecessary expense. However, their involvement can actually save tons of both time and money in the long run. Designers industry connections often grant access to exclusive discounts from suppliers and contractors. Moreover, their ability to plan and manage the project efficiently can prevent costly mistakes and delays, ensuring that the project is executed within the budget and on schedule. A quick note I personally don't work with designer markups and discounts like traditional interior design business models do. I won't go into the long of it, but in short, I don't feel it's a transparent enough model for my clients, and I feel that it fosters a loyalty to brands and companies, regardless of their quality or price, simply to earn commissions. I charge hourly or buy a project fee for larger projects that are going to take a large amount of hours. And I only use affiliate links occasionally, which are where the company pays me a nominal fee if the product is purchased using my link, and that doesn't cost anything for my clients, I digress back on track. A good designer will save you money by helping you choose and invest in the right pieces. For example, in TV rooms, dens living rooms. I often recommend prioritizing the investment in the sofa and seating pieces, while the rug, lamps, tables and decor can be found less expensively while still delivering a high impact design result. Number four innovative and creative design concepts. Interior designers are at the forefront of design trends and innovations and hopefully have a lot of experience and ideas. They bring fresh perspectives and creative ideas to the table, often proposing things that clients may never have considered otherwise. I can say one of the most fulfilling parts of my work is making suggestions that clients have never in their wildest dreams thought of. Designers extensive exposure to various design styles, materials and techniques enables them to create spaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and cutting edge, while problem solving along the way. Number five stress Reduction undertaking a major design project can be overwhelming, especially for those without a background in design. An interior designer can alleviate much of that stress associated with the process. They can handle everything from conceptualization and planning to implementation, styling and final touches. This allows clients to focus on their daily lives without the added burden of managing a complex project. I'm going to be honest. Sometimes I still get overwhelmed when I'm going through a larger project. I generally run high on anxiety anyways. But anyone who has done a renovation in their home or serious interior design project knows there are literally hundreds of decisions to be made all at once. Constant questions about changes and roadblocks that require real time decision making and pivots. But in my experience, I have systems, software and processes in place that are tried and true I know I can rely on, which allows me to manage that stress load for my clients while making sure they're getting the desired outcome at the end of the day. Number Six attention to Detail interior designers are known for their meticulous attention to detail. They consider every aspect of the design, from the positioning of furniture to the selection of accessories to ensure a harmonious and cohesive look. This level of detail enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the space, creating an atmosphere that's inviting and inspiring. This can be especially true in choosing finishes, fabrics, and in the staging and styling. Even the placement of books on a bookshelf can make a huge difference, especially in photography. To conclude, investing in an interior designer goes beyond the realms of mirror aesthetics. It's about transforming your space into a reflection of your personality, optimizing functionality, and enhancing enhancing your overall quality of life. With their professional expertise, tailored design solutions, cost efficiency, creative innovation, stress reduction, and unwavering attention to detail, interior designers bring an unparalleled value to any project. If you are considering redesigning your space, hopefully it's clear that the guidance of an interior designer is a sound investment that yields both a me it and long term benefits.
