Portland ADU
The goal of this project was to transform the basement area into a functional and desirable ADU (accessory dwelling unit) that would be suitable for both short and long term rentals. When we started this project the basement was full of old furniture, boxes, and a massive piano. The biggest obstacles of this project were the space and budget. We needed to somehow separate part of the space to create a semi-private bedroom area and many solutions were no-go’s due to budgetary limitations. After a lot of research and creative thinking we repurposed Ikea window screens installed from the ceiling to form a half wall running between the wall and adjacent column. This separation allowed us to create the semi- private bedroom area and a formal living room (with a queen sleeper sofa for additional occupancy).
