Home Refresh Challenge Week 3- Bedroom

Welcome to Week Three of our Home Refresh Challenge, where we turn our attention to the heart of relaxation and rejuvenation: the bedroom. As we embark on this phase of our refresh journey, we'll explore the transformative power of refreshing your bedroom space. Beyond mere aesthetics, the bedroom serves as a sanctuary, a haven where you retreat to unwind, recharge, and find solace amidst the demands of daily life. By infusing this space with elements that relax and nourish the mind, body, and spirit, we unlock the potential for profound restorative benefits, fostering a deeper connection to self-care and well-being. Let's get into our Bedroom Home Refresh Steps.

  1. Declutter and Simplify:

First and foremost, like our other spaces, it's essential to embrace our inner Marie Kondo and embark on a valiant quest through the dense underbrush of clutter that has overtaken our living spaces. It's time to face those towering stacks of magazines, each one an archaeological record of years past, dating back to 2015 – yes, they've got to go. And let us not overlook the chair that has fallen from its noble purpose of providing rest, now relegated to a makeshift laundry hamper; it’s time to bid it a respectful farewell. This is the decluttering mission, embracing the philosophy of minimalism with the fervor of a spring cleaning enthusiast who knows that there's no better time than now for such an overhaul.

As we move forward remember the golden rule: if an item doesn't resonate with a sense of joy or fulfill a valuable role in your day-to-day life, then it's time for it to find a new home or be graciously retired. This is more than just decluttering; it's about curating a space that breathes tranquility and efficiency into your environment. So, wield your discernment like a skilled warrior and liberate your dwelling from the grips of the superfluous. Pro tip to keep in mind as you sift through your belongings: if your heart doesn't do a little happy dance when you see it, and if it's not contributing positively to your livelihood, make the tough decision – say "thank you" and let it go.

Pro-tip: I shared this earlier but if you are having a hard time with idea of getting rid of certain things (I can struggle with this majorly when it comes to clothing!) give yourself a few week test run. Still move forward with the process packing up any donate or throw away items but find somewhere in the garage or trunk of your car to store them for a few weeks. If you end up need something out of the box feel free to find it a home inside and keep it. Anything you don't go looking for in that time can then be dropped off at your local thrift store or dump guilt free!

2. Refresh Bedding and Textiles

Out with the old, in with the new! The seasons are changing and there is no better time to refresh sheets, bedding, and pillows. This is the perfect time to dabble with earthy colors and cozy patterns; florals that seem to bloom right on the fabric, geometric shapes that add a modern twist, or even abstract designs that sprinkle an artistic vibe across your bedroom. The power of these patterns lies in their ability to transform a mundane room into a haven of creativity and cheer.

Remember, when it comes to bedding, layering is key. It's an art form where each layer contributes texture, warmth, and visual interest. Start with a fitted sheet, add a flat sheet, then perhaps a lightweight quilt or coverlet, and finally, a throw blanket casually draped at the foot of the bed. This method doesn’t only serve practicality by allowing you to peel off layers as needed but it also gives your bed that effortlessly stylish look — one that appears plucked from the glossy pages of an interior design magazine.

Plus, who can resist a mountain of fluffy pillows? There’s something undeniably inviting about a bed peppered with pillows of various sizes and shapes. They invite you to dive in, to take a moment of respite, or to simply admire the comfort fortress you've built. Each pillow also presents an opportunity to introduce different textures and patterns, tying together the entire theme of your refreshed.

Look for earth toned colors that add to the relaxing nature of the space- charcoals, muddy pinks, and muted earth tones of greens and even browns will add to the warmth and visual intrigue of the space.

3. Create a Tranquil Atmosphere:

Refreshing a bedroom to create a tranquil atmosphere involves a blend of thoughtful design choices and calming elements. After decluttering the space, opt for a soothing color palette, such as soft neutrals, muted blues, or gentle greens, to evoke a sense of serenity. These hues can be incorporated through paint, bedding, curtains, or decorative accents, adding depth and cohesion to the room.

Introducing natural elements can further enhance the tranquil ambiance of the bedroom. Consider incorporating elements such as wooden furniture, indoor plants, or natural textiles like cotton or linen. These elements not only add visual interest but also bring a sense of warmth and connection to the outdoors, promoting relaxation and well-being. Additionally, prioritize soft, ambient lighting sources such as bedside lamps or dimmable overhead fixtures to create a cozy atmosphere conducive to rest and rejuvenation.

Lastly, pay attention to the sensory experience within the space. Introduce textures like plush rugs, cozy throws, or silky curtains to add layers of comfort and tactile appeal. Consider incorporating aromatherapy through candles, diffusers, or linen sprays featuring scents like lavender, chamomile, or jasmine, known for their calming properties. By engaging multiple senses, you can create a holistic environment that invites relaxation and fosters tranquility.

4. Personalize and Style:

Now it’s time to infuse your unique essence into the room. Let those final embellishments truly represent who you are. Perhaps it's through a thoughtfully curated gallery wall that showcases a tapestry of your favorite memories and moments captured in photographs. Or maybe it's by showcasing an eclectic assortment of charming knick-knacks that speak volumes about your taste and the adventures you've had.

Your living space should be an extension of your personality, so don't hold back! It’s all about those small, personal elements that tell your story. Consider displaying that beloved collection of vintage vinyl records, or arranging those travel souvenirs you’ve picked up from around the world—each with its own backstory, adding layers of intrigue to your decor.

To add a punch consider painting or wallpapering an accent wall. For a stronger statement consider painting or wallpapering the ceiling! You could also consider a painted headboard feature.

Like in our other spaces try to bring in some nature! Consider a fiddle leaf fig or olive tree to brighten up a dark corner or a bedside succulent or flowers on the nightstand.

5. Light It Up

When it comes to revitalizing your bedroom, the importance of lighting cannot be overstated. Integrating updated lighting fixtures and lamps can have a transformative effect on the ambiance of the room. I always recommend having a bedside lamp placed on each side of the bed for symmetry and convenience. This not only ensures that both partners have their own source of light but also adds a balanced aesthetic to the room.

In addition to the bedside lamps, incorporating a floor lamp or a stylish wall sconce can elevate the overall lighting scheme. These additional sources are not just functional; they can serve as decorative elements that complement your space. They are particularly useful for creating a cozy reading nook or illuminating a dark corner, thereby enhancing the mood and feel of the bedroom.

Don't forget the ceiling fixtures. Whether you choose a simple, flush mount light or a statement chandelier, the ceiling fixture serves as a focal point that ties the entire lighting design together. It's essential for providing general illumination and sets the tone for the entire room.

You can also play around with adding dimmers to create the perfect ambiance at any time of day.

Conclusion:

Through thoughtful design choices and intentional curation, we've reimagined this space as a haven of serenity and rejuvenation. By prioritizing comfort, functionality, and aesthetic harmony, we've created an environment that not only delights the eye but also nurtures our rest and wellbeing. As we bid farewell to this chapter of our challenge, let us carry forward the lessons learned and the inspiration gained, infusing every corner of our homes with the essence of tranquility and well-being. Here's to embracing the transformative power of design and cultivating spaces that truly nourish and uplift us.
